GRU has gone from YC Launch to the world stage, and we’re just getting started.
We’re incredibly proud to share that Kevin Cannon, Founding Member of Technical Staff, has returned from Vienna where he joined the United States delegation at the 65th United Nations Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (COPUOS) as a private sector advisor.
This milestone marks a defining moment not only for GRU, but for the role of private space companies in shaping the future of humanity beyond Earth.
Helping Shape the Legal Future of Space
At this year’s session, global leaders, policymakers, and industry experts came together to address an increasingly crowded and dynamic space environment: thousands of satellites are being launched, orbital data centers are being seriously considered, and companies like GRU are on the cusp of starting to use resources on other planetary bodies.
Because of this, most places on the Moon’s near side have an almost continuous view of Earth: it’s always hanging in the sky, 4× the size that the Moon is in our sky. Towards the limbs of the Moon or towards the poles, the Earth is only visible some of the time, based on the Moon’s orbit and obscuration from topography. We can map out these effects and ask what fraction of time the Earth is visible from every point on the Moon’s surface:

Kevin's participation placed GRU at the center of these critical conversations, helping contribute to the evolving legal frameworks that will guide how space resources are explored, accessed, and utilized.
Specifically, the Legal Subcommittee's Working Group on Space Resource Activities is drawing close to finalizing a set of non-binding principles for the responsible use of extraterrestrial resources.
The U.S. position is that this can be done without conflicting with the Outer Space Treaty's nonappropriations language — as captured in the 2015 Commercial Space Act and the Artemis Accords. We are proud to be part of what is actively shaping the future of space.
A Rare Seat at the Table
GRU is honored to be among only a small number of private space companies selected to advise the United States delegation. This recognition underscores not only the strength of our vision, but the trust placed in our team to contribute meaningfully at the highest levels of international collaboration.

A Moment for the Team
From YC Launch to the United Nations, this is a huge milestone for GRU, and we couldn’t be more proud of our team.
Looking Ahead
This is only the beginning.
As the space economy accelerates, GRU is committed to playing a leading role, not just in innovation, but in ensuring that the future of space is built on responsible, sustainable, and forward-thinking foundations.
